News
We will be taking part in a project called Appetite for Action this term and we will need your consent. It is a gardening led project which the children will have the opportunity to write articles for our specified schools website link and post photographs of the activities we are doing. We have chosen the Greener Grub Challenge and over the next few weeks we will be asking the children to create their own school profile and create their own Get Growing Action Plan. This project will also be included as part of us going for Green Flag as part of Eco Schools and the Eco warriors from each class will also be involved.
If you have any queries, please contact claire.dwight@ntlworld.com or keep an eye on the new Eco School notice board outside Mrs Watkins office in the Ks1 corridor for further information and news.
OCTOBER 2009
The children had a great Autumn term, planting seeds, plugs and harvesting lots of summer crops. Two of the Broad bean plants will need to come back to school after half term so you will need to look after them until then.
The poly tunnel has been planted with winter lettuce and winter rainbow chard and Ks2 children will be watering this for us over the coming months.

The Objective and purpose behind the garden
Objective: to create a fun and enjoyable Eco area that can be created and maintained by the children of Brampton School to enhance their life experiences whilst giving them enjoyment and fun through learning.
Plan: to create an enclosed area which would contain several raised plant beds to grow vegetables and flowers and an area for pot grown plants and herbs which will be planted and maintained by the children. As inspired by the RHS “Grow Your Own Veg" programme”, "Get your hands dirty" scheme and "year of food and farming" scheme.
- A Fifth of all children have never picked fruit and veg and eaten it.
- Two thirds of pupils with rural experiences are interested in where their food comes from - only 40% of children who never visit the countryside care where their meals started out.
- Hands on experiences don't only provide pupils with a better grasp of where food starts out, it also makes them more likely to want to eat those foods. Studies have shown that children who are given a taste of growing vegetables develop positive appetites for their produce.
Some facts - Research study commissioned by the Year of Food and Farming campaign carried out by Edcoms in July 2007
