Important information re A14
A14 Dossier
A14 Minerals Extraction plan at Brampton
A Minerals and Waste plan relating to the planned A14 scheme has been issued for public consultation. The consultation ends at 5pm on 29 March 2010. Further information may be obtained from Mrs Ann Barnes, Principal Planning Officer, Environment & Community Services, Cambridgeshire County Council Tel: 01233-715526 email: mwplan@cambridgeshire.gov.uk
Eileen Collier of the Parish Council is keen that these documents be made available to parents. A key question is why permission for these borrow pits 'would not normally be given except for their proximity to the line of the A14 scheme' and also to explore the risks to Brampton residents during the construction phase should these proposals go ahead.
The main risk appears to be air pollution from particulates - mainly dust from excavations which will be much closer to housing at Park Farm and RAF Brampton and to Brampton Primary School and playing fields. An additional risk will be noise from the excavation and construction sites.

Book week
An exciting week is coming up! In addition to visits from a story-teller, and writers Knife and Packer, several other events have been planned:
• Sponsor forms have been sent out for the sponsored read - please encourage your child to set themselves a target and to take part in this activity; prizes will be awarded for outstanding personal effort and challenge.
• The Extreme Read competition has attracted several intriguing entries! There is still time to take a photograph of your child reading in an unusual location and send it to Miss Hughes.
• Dressing-up as a book character - children are invited to come into school on Thursday 25th March dressed as their favourite book character.
We shall have a book fair that week so look out for the posters. Children have asked if they can swap second-hand books and we are looking at how we might do this, so watch out for details in the next newsletter.

Easter bonnet parade
It is a long-standing tradition of Brampton School to hold an Easter bonnet parade, so have some fun with your child making a hat for the last day of term. Parents will be invited to watch the parade in the morning. Children in KS2 are being asked to create a model or picture on the theme of 'new life'. There will be prizes for the most creative efforts.

Make a difference
Thank you - to those who have helped to transform areas of our school over half-term. We are very grateful to Steve and Carol Kelly who have upgraded the Year 5 / 6 corridor with smart new cupboards, sinks and flooring.
We would also like to thank Claire Dwight, Helen Leach and a team of parent volunteers who have constructed some raised beds in the courtyard area; the children cannot wait to get growing!
Extreme Read
Miss Hughes has been enjoying seeing where our pupils have been reading their books in our 'Extreme Read' competition, it seems that the children have been using their imaginations to find unusual reading locations in far flung locations or quite close to home - keep the entries coming in either by e-mail or printed (FAO: Miss Hughes).
Sponsored Read
Give your child a challenge and collect money for the BVSA (who donate resources and funds to help us with a huge variety of things) at the same time! A sponsorship form where children can make a pledge for the number of pages they can read during the week will sent home next week.

Severe Weather
In the event of school closure, a ParentMail message will be sent; please check your e-mails. Information about school closures will also be given out by Radio Cambridgeshire and will be displayed on the County Council website:- the link is http://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/education/schools/schoolclosure. Please remember to refresh this page for the latest information.
Snow and ice at school
Regular risk assessments are being undertaken with regards to outdoor play. Generally speaking, the children are being allowed to go outside on the school field, although 'indoor' play has been arranged for those who don't like the cold. We have discussed with children the risks of slipping on icy surfaces and throwing snow; staff are carefully monitoring both play and the conditions underfoot.
Please ensure that your child has suitable outdoor clothing for the weather conditions - wellington boots, gloves, scarf, hat and a coat are advisable.
Homework Club
This runs on Tuesdays and Fridays at lunchtime. If your child needs some support with his or her homework, please encourage him / her to come along. Mrs Adams and Mrs Gibbs are always willing to help!
Meal Arrangements
If you need to change your child’s meal pattern please could you let someone know in the school office beforehand to allow for the changes to be made for our lunchtime supervisor. Thank you.
